Description Artesania Latina Cutty Sark HISTORY OF A LEGENDARY SHIP: CUTTY SARK CLIPPER Set sail on a course for adventure with the Cutty Sark a wooden model of a legendary tea clipper class ship from the 19th Century. Built for the tea race and one of the fastest ships of its era, she is preserved as a museum vessel in the town of Greenwich in the United Kingdom. Originally launched in Dumbarton, Scotland in 1869 the Cutty Sark was dedicated in her early years to the tea race, trying to unite China and London in the shortest possible time during eight ‘tea seasons’. In the year of its launch, the Suez Canal was opened which made the route much shorter and gave advantage to steamers. It was now possible to cross the Suez Canal for a sailboat, but it was difficult and expensive as conditions for sailing in the Red Sea are far from ideal. Later, she would be dedicated to the trade of wool from Australia, being the fastest boat on these routes for a decade, and she also would be used for the transport of goods between Porto, Rio de Janeiro, New Orleans, Lisbon and the Portuguese colonies. Finally, in 1954 the Cutty Sark would be transferred to dry dock and become a museum ship. Once it is built, this faithful miniature replica measures 40.62” (1,032mm) in length, 13.77” (350mm) in width and 24.56” (624mm) in height. This kit does not contain physical paperwork.
