The racing Gods must have been crying for the last Bathurst battle between Holden and Ford as the heavy rain bought a slippery track and aggressive driving early on caused pure carnage! The chaotic day was interrupted by rain delays and eight safety car periods but made for a nail-biting conclusion. The Supercheap car would be covered in 5,000 selfies of Bathurst fans and racing legend, Craig Lowndes will become the first driver in history to make 300 Supercar Championship round starts – his first race going all the way back to January 1996! Heavy rain on Saturday led to the Top 10 Shootout to be cancelled, so grid positions were achieved from Friday’s qualifying times. Lowndes avoided all the chaos of the race start and both he and Fraser were able to establish themselves inside the top 10 for most of the day. After the DJR Davison Mustang crashed late on Lap 142, the 6-hour long race became a sprint for the chequered flag with the Lowndes battling with the BJR ZB of Fullwood and the DJR Shell Mustang of De Pasquale. The Supercheap Auto car finished 8th and one of three Triple Eight cars in the Top 8 for an epic conclusion and truly memorable Bathurst race.
