Bödvar – the birth of a legend In myths and songs, the name Bödvar was associated with power and resilience, while the tales of Bödvar Bjarki – the warrior capable of taking the form of a bear – were well known among the Germanic peoples. Our protagonist did not yet know how closely his own story would mirror those ancient legends. Bödvar grew up as an expectionally strong youth, affectionately called “little bear”. He lived peacefully with his beloved Astrid and their daughter Sunneva in a Germanic village surrounded by forests, fields and meadows. But fate hurled him into the abyss of tragedy. Obverse Captures the moment of Bödvar’s awakening after the attack on his village. The warrior. Bound in heavy chains and surrounded by Roman legionaries, rises from the ground among ruins and flames. His gaze, growing anger and determination can be seen, while his tense muscles foreshadow the strength that will soon break his bonds. The dynamic composition and ultra-high relief emphasize the drama of the scene, portraying the very moment when an unstoppable will to fight is born. Reverse On the reverse, the central motif is the sacred Mount Thorbjørn. The monumental rocky massif takes the shape of a roaring bear, symbolizing strength and divine power. On its forehead is carved the Sowilo rune. From the stone bear’s mouth flow waterfalls that feed the rivers at its base. The coin’s outer ring forms a magical runic circle. Among the bear’s stone teeth is placed a Germanic shield with a double-headed eagle, while chains wrap around the entire composition, symbolically linking Bödvar’s destiny to the mythical mountain.
